1. The Service

Best Cheesecake in the World ("we", "us", "the site") is a personal publishing project on a mission to discover and document the finest cheesecakes in the world. Rankings are published at bestcheesecakeintheworld.com and managed through a companion iOS assessor application. The rankings are based on the personal opinions of our team of connoisseurs and do not constitute professional food criticism or endorsement.

2. Use of the Website

You may browse, share, and link to content on this site for personal and non-commercial purposes. You may not:

• Scrape, mirror, or reproduce the full ranking list for commercial purposes without our permission.
• Submit false, misleading, or spam information through any of the site's forms.
• Attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its infrastructure.
• Use the site in a way that violates applicable law or the rights of others.

3. User Submissions

Submitting a cheesecake or requesting an assessment

When you submit a cheesecake recommendation or request an assessment, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge. We reserve the right to reject, edit, or not publish any submission at our sole discretion. Submitting a cheesecake does not guarantee it will appear on the list.

Licence for submitted content

By submitting content (text, descriptions, photo links) through any form on this site, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, publish, and display that content on the website and in the assessor app for the purpose of operating the rankings. You retain ownership of your content.

Community votes

Community votes are stored anonymously in your browser and displayed for interest only. They have no influence on the official rankings, which are determined solely by our assessors.

4. The Assessor App

Access and authentication

The iOS assessor app uses Sign in with Apple as its authentication method. Access to the app is by invitation only. By creating an account, you agree to use the app only for its intended purpose of submitting and reviewing cheesecake assessments.

Account responsibilities

You are responsible for keeping your Apple ID credentials secure. You must not share your access or GitHub publishing token with others. We reserve the right to terminate access for any user who misuses the app.

Account deletion

You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us via the contact form. You can also revoke the app's Apple ID access via Settings → [Your Name] → Password & Security → Apps Using Apple ID on your device.

5. Intellectual Property

The design, copy, photography (unless otherwise attributed), and ranking data on this site are our property or used with permission. The name "Best Cheesecake in the World" and associated branding are ours. You may quote or reference our rankings with attribution; reproducing them in full commercially requires prior written permission.

6. Accuracy of Rankings

All rankings reflect the personal experience and opinion of our assessors at the time of the visit. Restaurants change over time — a cheesecake we loved may differ from what is served when you visit. We make no guarantee that any specific cheesecake will match our description. Always check with the restaurant before visiting.

7. Third-Party Links and Services

The site links to restaurant websites, map services, and social media pages. We are not responsible for the content or practices of those third-party sites. We use third-party infrastructure (Apple Sign in, GitHub Pages, Firebase, Google Fonts, OpenStreetMap) to operate the site and app — use of those services is governed by their respective terms.

8. Disclaimers

The site and app are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the site will be available at all times, free from errors, or free from viruses or other harmful components. Rankings are subjective opinions and should not be treated as professional advice.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site, the app, or reliance on any content published here. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed €50.

10. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Netherlands, unless applicable consumer protection law in your country provides otherwise.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms when the site or app changes materially. The effective date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
